Unity CEO Resigned After Debacle Of Charging Developers For Installs

Unity has been hit hard lately with some absolutely terrible pricing structure changes, but it seems some big changes are at hand.

We covered it already and to say the least, we were not fans of the new pricing structure. Heck most of the internet blasted Unity, and countless developers are already training on new engines.

The leader of all this, John Riccitiello, has resigned from his position effective immediately. While unity and Riccitiello have since apologized for the changes, it seems like it will be a slow road to rebuilding trust. Unity still currently offers an “open ended agreement” which means these changes can very easily re-appear. It also wasn’t the first time Riccitiello had to apologize either, he was caught multiple times saying some not so nice things about developers.

While this is good news overall, there are still some questions to be had. Will the new CEO fix the agreement and bring back tools to Unity which were canceled under Riccitiello? And more importantly, what company is going to hire John Riccitiello now? He might not be consumer friendly (at all), but he does make companies a quick buck.

Meanwhile Unity itself is listed as a “loss-making” company with their most recent report showing a pre-tax loss of $188.5m. Unity is currently trading at just under $30 a share.
