If you are a gamer, or not a gamer, you’ve probably heard of the Fallout TV show on Amazon’s Prime Video by now, and it seems that impact is leading to people exploring the series.
One of the cool things that happened when early Marvel movies really took off was a slight boom in the comic book industry as a whole. When Iron Man hit theaters, and the Avengers were coming together, everyone seemed to either dig into their old comic book boxes or suddenly remembered their local comic book store was still open.
While video games are booming quite easily by themselves, and sometimes even surpassing the film industry itself, it’s still nice to see a similar effect when Hollywood finally does something right.
Fallout has gone on to become one of Amazon’s biggest new releases, and with it came a ton of new players in the series. Recently Bethesda has thanked fans as over 1 million players have joined the wasteland in Fallout 76, the live service game Bethesda released in 2018. The average peak player count for Fallout 76 before the show was released was around 13k players, and after the show released the daily peak number has reached over 76k players on Steam.
Elsewhere Bethesda noted that over 5 million players have jumped back into the entire Fallout series, which spans multiple games including 4 core releases. That means over 4 million players jumped into games outside of Fallout 76. Fallout 4, for example, has nearly triple the amount of peak players with almost 170k peak players on Steam. This number is expected to climb later this week when a new free update releases that will add a new story mission, along with updating the game to current generation consoles.
It’s easy to see what quality content both within your industry and outside it can do for a franchise. Halo recently released a TV show, and if you haven’t seen it then count yourself lucky. It was met with incredibly bad reviews by critics and fans alike, and it didn’t see nearly the same impact Fallout has seen with its massive audience that seems to grow by the day.
