Star Wars Outlaws Update Removes Stealth Requirement

Perhaps the world isn’t ready for a new Splinter Cell….

I’ve been anxiously waiting for a new Splinter Cell game to release. There were multiple times when Ubisoft was very heavily hinting at it during E3, and most recently “not-E3,” only to disappoint me with some DLC or content related to another game. The crowd seems to be there for Sam Fisher and friends to return. Nothing really beats the stealth mechanics and gadgets you get to use to take out bad guys, and uncover a Tom Clancy inspired story….

But then I got my hands on Star Wars: Outlaws and I loved every bit of it. Not only was the Star Wars fan inside me jumping for joy, but this was basically a modern day Splinter Cell in disguise. You had stealth mechanics, gadgets, and missions that would outright fail if an alarm was raised. It created a challenge that not many other games have offered as of late, and well it seems like it went too far for most people.

According to Ubisoft a new patch released, Update 1.4.0, which has basically entirely removed the need for stealth from the game. According to the blog post, players will no longer be reset to the checkpoint when triggering an alarm on stealth missions. You will also have more opportunities to keep picked up weapons and objects, along with a bunch of visual upgrades and updates to AI.

“This Title Update brings changes to combat and stealth allowing for greater player choice, the ability to now keep pick-up weapons in more situations, visual options to allow for a sharper image and much more to improve your journey across the galaxy,” Ubisoft said.

However there is still an ongoing issue with users that updated to the latest Windows 11 update, and Ubisoft is actively working on a fix for that.

I don’t know how I personally feel about the update. If it means more people can readily enjoy the game, then by all means I hope it works out. However removing the aspect of being caught and resetting is kind of disheartening. There were multiple areas that were extremely challenging to get through, and finally beating it gave you a sense of accomplishment.

Check out the full patch notes.
