If you planned to grab a Spider-Man faceplate for your PS5, like me, tough luck.
If you were like me you woke up extra early to head to the PlayStation Direct website only to be let down yet again. Going live earlier this morning were pre-orders for the new Spider-Man PS5 accessories which includes a PS5 bundle, console covers / plates, and a new controller.
If you just wanted a PS5 faceplate, well luck wasn’t on our side. I was personally on the website early and noticed the items went live 10 minutes early, but even with my information already saved and ready to go I couldn’t check out in time to secure one. Restock trackers actually show the plates were in stock for exactly…..ten seconds.
Over on Twitter (or whatever it is called these days) it seems a lot of other fans are having the same issue. Lots of people on the official PlayStation and Insomniac pages are talking about the plates being out of stock before the website even refreshes. There is also the issue with the PlayStation Direct website randomly not working, which won’t allow people to check out and then throws them into a wait timer before eventually selling out.
Select other retailers will also be selling the accessories in “very limited supply,” so you might have some luck heading to a local GameStop or other retailers to secure a pre-order. Online BestBuy and Target have already listed their stock and sold out. Wal-Mart and Amazon have yet to list the plates at the time of writing this.
If you are interested in the controller however it appears that is a bit easier to get. Currently it is still in stock on PlayStation Direct, along with the actual PS5 bundle.
It is also worth noting this was purely for pre-orders. The plates and console bundle release September 1st, shortly before the games actual release. So come launch day we might have a second swing to pick up any lost pre-orders or extra stock at retailers.
