Sony revealed in a blog post today that the PSVR2 may be heading towards PC.
Sony revealed today on the PS Blog that they have plans to get PC support on PSVR2 sometime this year.
Also, we’re pleased to share that we are currently testing the ability for PS VR2 players to access additional games on PC to offer even more game variety in addition to the PS VR2 titles available through PS5. We hope to make this support available in 2024, so stay tuned for more updates.
What this support means is a little iffy as Sony has been mostly silent in terms of adding PC support since the unit launched last year. Today marks the one year anniversary in fact, and still there are very few third party modders that have gotten it to work on PC.
This is interesting news and could mean additional support from VR game on PSVR2 in general for PS5 users as well. Fans have been begging for the opportunity to play Half-Life Alyx since launch. This would also be the most cost effective PC unit on the market with the features the headset offer. Comparable models cost twice as much, if not more.
Personally I think it is a stellar move if Sony does in fact bridge this gap because VR shouldn’t really be “exclusive.” These makers should all be sharing games and trying to get VR a foothold in the market so we get more games to play. PSVR2, as of late, has been collecting dust on my shelf.
It will also be interesting if Sony needs to create some type of adapter for PC. Maybe not along the lines of PSVR1, but a lot of newer graphics units have ditched USB C support as of late. It will be interesting if they will bring their VR exclusive games to PC too, and if this will open support for some long lost ones on PSVR1 to be brought back.
