Production Gearing Up for Bigger Nintendo Switch Model

A new report has announced plans for a new Nintendo Switch, set to be revealed/release later this year. Learn more within…

For the last few years, rumors have swirled within the gaming community of Nintendo planning to produce a high-end version of their Nintendo Switch console, called Nintendo Switch Pro. However, those rumors were squashed when Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa said that Nintendo had no plans to announce a new Switch “anytime soon”.

However, “anytime soon” may be sooner than expected. That’s according to a report by Bloomberg who’s sources say that Nintendo is planning on announcing/release a new bigger Switch model this year.

This new Nintendo Switch will sport a 7-inch, 720p resolution OLED display. Nintendo has partnered with Samsung Display, a subsidiary of Korean tech giant Samsung Electronics, to manufacture these new panels.

In addition to this switch being bigger overall, the new Samsung OLED panels will also “consume less battery power and will offer higher contrast and possibly faster response times” according to Yoshio Tamura, cofounder of display consultancy DSCC.

Manufacturing of the panels will begin in June. Nintendo plans on creating just under a million units in time for the holiday season. Nintendo hopes that this new Switch can allow them to continuing competing with Xbox and PlayStation during those holiday months, as they have since the pandemic.
