Pharaoh: A New Era Trailer Showcases the Title’s Visual Upgrades

This morning, Dotemu revealed a new trailer for their remake of the beloved city-builder, Pharaoh, showing off the sleek 4K update.

It’s been a while since we’ve heard much about Pharaoh: A New Era, the upcoming full remake of the classic city-builder game. Thankfully, today brings some fresh gameplay in the form of a side-by-side comparison between the original and the new 4K hotness:

I love these kind of remakes. I know they aren’t for everyone, but I enjoy how they manage to retain the classic style of the original even as all the assets are upgraded for the new technology. Like how Command & Conquer Remastered did things, it’s a nice blend of nostalgia and overall quality of life upgrades.

Publisher Dotemu and developer Triskell Interactive today unveiled new gameplay showcasing the mesmerizing vision of ancient Egypt that is Pharaoh: A New Era, a full remake of one of the most beloved city builders of all time.

To further ensure Pharaoh: A New Era embodies the classic’s spirit, Dotemu and Triskell Interactive also recently completed a closed pre-alpha with some of the world’s most passionate Pharaoh fans to help refine gameplay. Community feedback will continue to be a key pillar in building Pharaoh: A New Era’s modernization of the original Pharaoh’s engrossing experience.

Pharaoh: A New Era fully recreates the classic city builder with all-new code, 4K graphics, and improved mechanics and UI. The game’s Campaign challenges players to develop cities throughout six different periods of ancient Egypt, building up trade centers, grand cities, and more. Pharaoh: A New Era includes the 2000 expansion, Cleopatra: Queen of the Nile, bundling more than 100 hours of gameplay, 53 missions, a full map and mission editor, and a Free Build mode into the ultimate celebration of the original genre-defining classic.

Sadly, Pharaoh: A New Era doesn’t have a new release date (having been pushed from 2021 into next year), but at least we know it’s looking good!
