Battlefield 2042 is set to release in just under a week and it looks like we have a lot to be excited for. With the game not having a campaign this time around, EA and DICE have made sure to give players a ton to do in this online-based version of the game.
EA and DICE have released a new gameplay video featuring one of their most exciting modes for Battlefield 2042, Battlefield Portal. This mode lets players combine the worlds of Battlefield 1942, Battlefield: Bad Company 2, Battlefield 3, and Battlefield 2042 and looks to be one of the wildest game modes ever released in a Battlefield title.
I don’t know about you, but this game mode looks like one hell of a time, but what all will be launching with this year’s Battlefield? The modes available will be vast when it comes to gameplay style and preference of play. So, no matter the type of gamer you are, there will be a mode that all will enjoy. Here are the modes launching Day One:
- CONQUESTBattlefield’s massive, iconic sandbox mode returns – this time supporting 128 players on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation®5, and PC. The maps have been specifically designed for this vast scale, with action divided into “clusters” of various kinds. Also, the action now centers around sectors consisting of several flags instead of individual control points.
- Battlefield Hazard ZoneInserted as a four-member squad, you must locate and retrieve critical Data Drives scattered throughout the Battlefield while fighting opposing squads with the same objective and Occupying Forces. Succeed by gathering the Data Drives and choosing when to extract before a storm overtakes the area in this high-stakes, one-life experience.
- BREAKTHROUGH
The return of Breakthrough sees two teams – Attackers and Defenders – battle over larger-scale sectors as the Attackers push towards the final objective. Each sector is designed to house a larger number of players, enabling more strategic choice and more flanking opportunities. Approach the capture areas from multiple locations and take advantage of more types of tactical possibilities. - Battlefield™ PortalDiscover unexpected battles and change the rules of war. Countless experiences from several Battlefield sandboxes await – not only from Battlefield 2042, but the classics Battlefield 1942, Battlefield: Bad Company 2, and Battlefield 3, too.Take on custom-made modes or create your own unique experience using powerful builder tools. Imagine the assault rifles and helis of Battlefield 2042 on the Battlefield 1942 map Battle of the Bulge. Or perhaps a knife vs. defib fight on Caspian Border? Battlefield™ Portal’s inclusion of classic Battlefield universes opens up hugely creative gameplay opportunities. All of the cutting-edge gear and vast maps of Battlefield 2042 can be brought into Battlefield™ Portal, which allows you to wreak havoc in exciting new ways.
Let’s be real here, that game mode looks amazing but the fact that this game is launching as an online-only version of Battlefield is a little worrisome. Though EA and DICE have a pretty good track record over the last few years, I have always loved the story mode for those games, especially the Bad Company storyline.
With that said, I do think EA and DICE can make Battlefield 2042 an enjoyable experience for a few years. The fact that no maps or modes are locked behind a pay-gate is a huge plus, but like many other games, there will be a Year One Pass available on Day One.
This Year one pass will be much like Call of Duty’s, especially since Byron Beede (Former Call of Duty/Destiny GM) is now over the Battlefield Franchise at DICE LA. Beede was the main driving force in creating the Battlepass system for Call of Duty and one of the leads for COD Mobile. So I think it is easy to say that we might have a lot of content headed our way for this year’s Battlefield.
