It seems we’re going to be meeting Dominique Thorne’s Riri Williams’, aka Ironheart sooner than anticipated, as the character will be appearing in the upcoming Black Panther sequel next year.
It’s long been known that the character of Ironheart would be getting her own Disney+ series, but it’s now been learned that we’ll be getting to officially meet the character before that series officially arrives. It’s been confirmed by Variety that the character of Ironheart will be debuting in the upcoming Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, currently scheduled to be released on July 8, 2022.
Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige first revealed the news in an interview with Comicbook.com while speaking about the upcoming “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.”
“We’re shooting ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ right now, and the character of Riri Williams, you will meet in ‘Black Panther 2’ first,” he told Comicbook.com. “She started shooting, I think, this week before her ‘Ironheart’ series.”
As a reminder, Riri Williams was originally introduced in the Marvel comics in 2016 as a 15-year-old MIT student who reverse engineers Iron Man’s armor in order to create her own suit of armor and, in the comics at least, is encouraged to become a superhero in her own right by Tony Stark himself. Given Tony Stark’s passing in Avengers: Endgame, it will be interesting to see how Riri Williams comes into her own set of armor and the Ironheart name.
