E3 2022 is going virtual this year, marking the third year the annual expo has been forced to change up the formula in place for more than 25 years.
The ESA told Venture Beat today that continued health risks posed by COVID-19 pushed them make the decision to go online again.
“Due to the ongoing health risks surrounding COVID-19 and its potential impact on the safety of exhibitors and attendees, E3 will not be held in person in 2022,” the ESA told the website. “We remain incredibly excited about the future of E3 and look forward to announcing more details soon.”
The news isn’t particularly surprising as the Omicron variant surges across the world.
In 2020 the show was canceled altogether and last year’s E3 was the Electronic Software Association’s first attempt at a fully virtual show.
