The next season of Call of Duty starts on Thursday and developers gave a preview of what new guns, maps, and modes players can expect to see.
Players will have a new limited-time event to tackle on Thursday called “Hunt for Adler” that will task Operators with challenges in both Black Ops Cold War and Warzone. Players who complete a full set of challenges in either Black Ops Cold War or Warzone will unlock an exclusive Adler skin.
Four operators are joining the fray and one of them will be an old face: Wraith, Knight, Antonov, and Captain Price.
The game will see the addition of six new weapons: PPSh-41 (SMG), Swiss K31 (Sniper Rifle), Ballistic Knife (Melee), CARV.2 (Tactical Rifle), AMP63 (Pistol), and Baseball Bat (Melee).
There are a variety of new maps and modes headed to multiplayer as well, including 6v6 on Yamantau, 6v6/2v2/3v3 on Diesel, 6v6 in Standoff, Multiteam in Duga, Multi-team Elimination, and the return of Sticks and Stones.
A new scorestreak enters the fray with the Strafe Run, allowing players to call in the assistance of jet fighters to shower down rockets on enemies.
The Cargo Truck is a new vehicle that will be available in multi-team multiplayer modes Ruka, Alpine, Golova and Duga.
In Outbreak, players will see the addition of a new field upgrade, region, vehicle, events and more.
The Toxic Growth Field Upgrade will be available in both Outbreak and round-based maps.
“By harnessing Aetherium Crystals, Requiem’s R&D team has developed Toxic Growth, an activatable Field Upgrade that summons a deadly growth of toxic thorns in front of an Operator,” developers said. “Enemies moving through it have their movement speed halved and suffer toxic damage until they exit the affected area. Through the use of Aetherium Crystals, Operators can upgrade Toxic Growth to give it more charges, double its damage, .and even cause enemies who perish from the growth to explode!”
Duga will be added to the region selection in Outbreak during Launch Week.
The FAV and the Cargo Truck will be new vehicles added to Outbreak with new built-in armaments.
Players will be able to upgrade the D.I.E. Machine Wonder Weapon for the first time, including a powerful Aether Tool item and a new way to warp ahead.
Objectives in Outbreak will be expanded and Defend, Retrieve, and Holdout objectives will be available in more regions than before.
“PlayStation players can take on the undead to earn Bronze, Silver, and Gold Chalices in Onslaught on the new Yamantau map at launch, and on Standoff mid-season. Look for a new limited-time mode in Onslaught later in Season Three, as well,” developers said.
Season 3 will offer four additional Prestiges to achieve across the first 200 levels and a new weapon blueprint.
Developers revealed that additional multiplayer and zombie challenges, Warzone Intel and additional Warzone operations will be added to the game.
The update for Black Ops Cold War will be ready to pre-download at 9 p.m. PST/11 p.m. CST on April 20 and for Warzone at 9 p.m. PST/11 p.m. CST on April 21. The update will be ready to play on April 22.
