Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance Gets Re-Released TOMORROW

Interplay and Wizards of the Coast announced today that Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance is being re-released tomorrow for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.

PC and mobile versions of Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance will release later this year.

The game is being re-released instead of remastered or remade, so it will not have new features outside of 4K support for Xbox One X and PS4 Pro and backwards compatibility from PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. It will feature its classic two-player local co-op, which means that the game can utilize cross-generation Shareplay through the latest PlayStation 5 update.

Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance is set in the Forgotten Realms campaign setting in the Dungeon and Dragons universe based on the rules for the 3rd Edition of the game. It first launched in 2001 and was the first implementation of the 3E ruleset, which had released a year prior.

The game originally launched on the PlayStation 2 and Xbox, and was later ported to the GameCube and Game Boy Advance. It was the first Baldur’s Gate game to see a launch on consoles.

The latest entry into the franchise, Baldur’s Gate 3, entered early access on PC in October 2020. It is being developed by Larian Studios (Divinity: Original Sin and Divinity: Original Sin II) and does not currently have a date for the full release of the game and whether it will launch on consoles.
