Apple Showcases Expensive Vision Pro AR Headset

Check out the latest AR headset by Apple, but get ready to take out a loan…

CEO Tim Cook noted that this is the first Apple device you “look through, and not at.” The headset is a full Augmented Reality headset which utilizes your eyes, hands, and head movements to navigate. You can look at icons and “tap” with your finger to open the app, for example. The entire headset is geared to not using controllers at all. It also has two downward facing camera’s which allow the device to see your hands and movements even when resting at your side.

The cool aspect of the headset is that with a small dial you can switch from AR to full VR. When entering full VR the outer glass will light up to show you are in VR mode and currently “unavailable” to nearby people.

The technical specs include 12 cameras, a glass front, and an aluminum body. The body is cloth lines and modular which means it will fit all shapes of people’s heads. The headset also includes 12 sensors to track movement, and will produce 4k quality in each eye. The headset also works like a computer with an added processor that has a fan. The headset also support blutooth devices which allow you to connect keyboards and other accessories, along with connecting to Apple’s various devices.

The device runs off an M2 and also includes a new processor called R1.

AR features are cool because it projects a basically full computer experience in the real world. You can flick apps and even images from text messages into the “real world” environment in full color. There are other various features including arranging people within a room for meetings with spatial audio allowing you to hear directly from where you place them.

If all this sounds interesting, well you better get ready to use that car down payment for it. The headset “starts” at $3499. With people complaining about Sony’s latest headset being too costly at $500, I don’t think this will share the same VR market we all know today.
