All sorts of new and amazing games are springing up on Steam Greenlight and Kickstarter.  These are great tools for game developers to present new ideas to the masses, and provides gamers the chance to try out something different. Not all games have a fairy tale ending, however, and sometimes gamers get burned on the promise of something intriguing, only to be completely ignored and cast aside after helping to fund the project.  Such is the case with The Stomping Land, and we decided to look into it.

Indie game studios are popping up all over the world. From freshly graduated student teams, to game industry vet collaborations. From the one-man-band to the massive orchestra. Kickstarter campaigns here, Greenlight proposals there, in a constant battle to get a game noticed.  As a gamer and someone with an avid interest in the Indie games industry, I have noticed patterns and trends settling into successful and not so successful Indie studios. Here I will attempt to identify recurring problems and mistakes new Indie studios make, and offer the best medicine I can muster.

Many retro games are notoriously difficult and avoiding imminent death is common place when playing a game like Battletoads or Altered Beast. Here we shine the spotlight on 5 Retro pests that further amped up the difficulty and perhaps caused us to sprout a few grey hairs.
