Created in the now defunct Ultimate Marvel Universe Miles Morales became the Spider-Man for that universe after Peter Parker died. His powers are very similar to Peter Parker with some added abilities so as far as credentials let’s see. Sticking to objects, spider-sense, proportionate strength of a spider, yeah he’s got all the needed material to add some more to the friendly neighborhood.
The title will be helmed by veteran writer and creator Brian Michael Bendis and original artist Sara Pichelli. “This is a very big deal to [Sarah and I],” says Brian Michael Bendis in an interview with Marvel.com. “For [Miles] to have grown up and flat-out earned his place in the Marvel Universe, as Spider-Man, is frankly so much more than we could have hoped for when we first sat down to design him and his life. When it became clear that I was going to follow Miles into this new adventure I was really hoping that Sara would see the value in it being both of us that do this together. I was thrilled that she agreed immediately.”
The character has weathered the criticism and the ending of a universe that now people are more accepting of him. And now we have a fresh canvas to paint his stories on. Miles is in a universe where he’s alone and Peter Parker is an adult who been wearing the webs for quite some time. He’s had action figures, an animated version, and in video games. Miles is here to stay folks and with four years of continuity I hope he stays for a while. He’s had several titles that have done very well and I have no doubts that Spider-Man #1 will do as great. Coming this fall true believers Miles Morales is Spider-Man!
