Focal Point: Dropping Into Sadness

There’s a sad realization every parent (who’s a gamer) must come to, which we can see in this week’s new Focal Point comic!

Would you look at us! Four whole weeks in a row since our return, and manage to continue to be topical as we even give the all new Fortnite season a mention!

Being a gamer and a parent brings its own challenges. For one, having the TIME to play your own games while parenting is a difficult juggling act. Secondly is when you come to the realization that they are in fact better at you, and that you can no longer “hang” with them.

Sadly, I’ve known this for a while now (pretty much once my son started legitimately beating me in Mario Kart 8), but the prominence of Fortnite has laid my inadequacies bare. I enjoy Fortnite, but like most shooters I have absolutely no skill in it. I struggle. Since my kids got Nintendo Switch’s for Christmas the other year, it’s been their main game.

For the first couple months, I would enjoy logging in with them and playing together…but it didn’t take long for me to start dragging down the team. Now, they don’t even try to hide the fact that I’m terrible.

With the new season of Fortnite dropping this week, I’ve seen a lot of cool things I’d love to hop in an do, but Heaven knows I’m not an asset to any squad. As such, you get this week’s new comic strip, featuring my son and stepdaughter (who recently found a shared love of pro-wrestling to unite them).

I hope you enjoyed this week’s comic and if you did be sure to check out last week’s (and the ones before that). Until next week, stay safe out there and if you see me in Fortnite take it easy!
