Cinelinx’s Geeky Gift Guide

Finding the perfect gift for the nerd in your life can be difficult. Movies don’t seem right, and neither do games…That’s where our Geek Wish List comes in!

It’s that time of year again when the weather gets cold, and the Christmas decorating/shopping has begun. If you have movie lovers, gamers, or nerds in general, on your shopping list the Cinelinx team is here to help you find the perfect gift with our annual gift guides.

Over the past couple weeks, we’ve presented you with our annual MOVIE and GAMING gift guides. If those weren’t enough (along with our Geek Pick of the Weeks) and you’re still on the hunt for the perfect Christmas present this year, then perhaps our general Geek Wish List will be what’s in order!

LEGO Star Wars 75313 AT-AT (Jordan): Coming in at $800 you’re REALLY going to have to love someone to pick this thing up. However, it’s hard to think of a much cooler gift to give that special nerd on your list than this. Coming in at almost 6800 pieces, this impressive set looks like it’s pulled straight out of Empire Strikes Back.

The Beholder Puzzle: A Dungeons and Dragons Jigsaw Puzzle (Jordan): If you’re looking for something for the tabletop nerd on your list, but not sure what might be best, it’s hard to go wrong with a cool looking jigsaw puzzle. Featuring cool art from the beloved D&D series, this makes for an excellent quick gift to put under the tree.

Disney and Pop Culture Pins (Jess): Do we have any pin collectors out there? Gift-giving time is the perfect time to plug one of my favorite pin creators, The Disney Monster! Rylan is the creator behind The Disney Monster and he loves creating crossovers of his favorite movies growing up. Perfect for nostalgic 80s and 90s kids, as well as horror fans, there is definitely something for everyone available in The Disney Monster store.

Pins come safely packaged and many of them include a Certificate of Authenticity which is valued by other collectors in the event that you ever want to trade your pins. While the shop opens periodically, the best way to check out The Disney Monster products and shop opening dates and times is via Instagram: @thedisneymonster

Kross Studio’s Star Wars Watch Rolls (Jordan): To be honest, I’ve never actually considered needing a customized “watch roll” (where you keep your watch for display/safety when not wearing them). Now that I’ve seen these Star Wars ones from Kross Studios, however, I need them. These are just cool, and if you’re a collector with some branded watches, these make for an ideal way to display them. Definitely something I don’t think most people would think of, thus making for an excellent surprise gift to give out.

In the Kitchen

Godzilla Hot Sauces
Zombie Baking Cups
Jurassic Park Bottle Opener
Captain America Shield Cutting Board
Lightsaber Salt and Pepper Mills

Stardew Valley Board Game (Katy): By the creator of the game himself. A cooperative board game for up to four players to save Pelican Town from Joja Corp. Farm, fish friend and find you way to Grandpa’s goals and to restore the Community Center and peace to Stardew Valley.

Mox by Jon Moxley (Becky): If you’ve ever wanted an inside peek into the mind of one of the best professional wrestlers on the planet, or the world of professional wrestling in general, then I highly recommend picking up Mox by Jon Moxley. It’s not like other straightforward wrestling biographies that I’ve read: it sort of jumps from one event to the next, sometimes out of order, and it reads very much like a diary at times. You can clearly hear Moxley’s POV in each page and you get an eye-opening look at the world of wrestling as only Moxley can tell it. I can’t recommend this book enough.

Super7 Godzilla Collection (Jordan): There are actually a surprising amount of new (old) Godzilla merchandise for fans to pick up. Among those, however, Super7’s offerings stand out to me. On top of the shirts/apparel which look really swanky, I absolutely love their glow in the dark ReAction figure. It’s goofy looking, but the call back to the past hits all the right notes.

Star Wars Soap Collection (Jordan): Earlier this year, Dr. Squatch released a special batch of soaps dedicated to Star Wars. I don’t fully understand how they’re connected, but I’ll be damned if that’s ever stopped me in the past! I actually have this set, which comes in a nifty collector case and smells incredible. Definitely an ‘outside the box’ kind of gift that fans/collectors would love to see under the tree!

Cosmoknights vol. 1 by Hannah Templer (Becky): Do you like graphic novels? Imagine a medieval/sci-fi world where tournaments are routinely fought to “win” princesses (and by extension their kingdoms). Now imagine a band of queer renegades has set out to take the system down. That is, in a nutshell, the premise of Cosmoknights and it is one of the best graphic novels I’ve read this year. The art is beautiful and the story will grab you by the throat from beginning to end. For all of those reasons and more that I won’t mention due to plot spoilers, I have to recommend getting Cosmoknights as a gift either for yourself or a friend.

Heartstopper vol. 1 by Alice Oseman (Becky): I have to recommend the first volume of Hearstopper because it has a heartbreakingly adorable premise: boy meets boy. Boy falls in love. Second boy gradually realizes he’s in love too. Adorable teenage romance ensues.

Seriously, the love depicted in Heartstopper is so pure that after finishing vol. 1 I instantly ran out and purchased vols. 2 and 3. The panels can be a little tough to follow at first until you get the flow of the writing, but that doesn’t make the story any less touching. Also, it’s worth pointing out that Heartstopper is being turned into a Netflix series that’s coming out hopefully next year, so this would be a good opportunity to learn about the story before it comes out.

Animal Crossing Amiibo Cards (Emily): Animal Crossing: New Horizons has been incredibly popular since it’s launch in 2020, and from November of 2021, there’s even more reasons for Animal Crossing lovers to start collecting Amiibo cards. Amiibo cards are collectible cards which offer in-game perks, such as inviting residents to your campsite, to Harv’s photo booth, and now to Brewster’s coffee shop, among other things.

Series 5 of the Animal Crossing Amiibo cards have only recently been released, so it’s the perfect time to start collecting! The best part is, one pack of these cards only costs $6, so it’s a brilliant choice if you’re looking for an inexpensive but thoughtful present, or if you’re looking to add to something else.

Fiction Reading

Star Wars Visions: Ronin
Cytonic: The Skyward Series Book 3
Critical Role: Vox Machina—Kith & Kin
City of Shattered Light

The Ultimate Final Fantasy XIV Cookbook (Matt): There’s no question that Final Fantasy XIV is one of the biggest and best MMOs out today, with over 22 million players and counting. In addition to its epic adventures and stories, one of the best parts of FFXIV is mouth-watering food.

Now you’ll be able to recreate it at home with your MMO-player, as Square Enix has released The Ultimate Final Fantasy XIV Cookbook. This cookbook features 192 pages of delectable morsels ripped from the game like Starlight Dodo, Warmwine, Almond Cream Croissants, Futo-Maki Roll, Crab Croquette, and so much more. I’m getting hungry just thinking about it. It’s $35 on the Square Enix Store and could make for an awesome gift for your Final Fantasy fan this Holiday.

SOLEB: Listen, now is the time to be a GEEK/Gamer! When I was younger, anything geek or gamer related was always very cheaply made. There were a few toys and stuff I got that was somewhat higher, but nothing like what is on the market today! Here are a few things I think every gamer or geek should have this holiday season

Elder Scrolls Official Cookbook : $19.19

Pair of LED Light Up Portal Bookends : $34.47

Zelda Navi Glow In The Dark Necklace: $17.95

Dragon Ball Z Kame Symbol Hoodie: $49.99

Zelda Whiskey Glass Gift Set. Legend of Zelda Fans Gift: $55.00

We hope our annual gift guides have been helpful to you this year so far. Happy hunting and good luck with all your nerdy Christmas shopping this year!
