Sony Restructuring To Release Titles More Timely

Sony hasn’t released any first party titles so far this year, and they are taking noted to prevent that from happening again.

It’s not hard to see why PlayStation has become so dominant in the game industry, games and more games. Sony pioneered the story driven experience with major blockbuster titles, and having hit game after hit game. They explored many different genres, and had won many GOTY awards along the way.

That all has been on hold as of late with Sony only assisting in some 3rd party distribution games this year. Currently Sony only has 3 smaller first party titles slated for later this year including Concord, Astro Bot, and Lego Horizon.

That will change as Sony stated during an earnings call this week that “the Studio Business Group is strengthening its development schedule management and optimizing development projects in order to consistently and continuously release hit titles.” A separate division will look to establish a “stable earnings base,” while keeping the PlayStation audience engaged.

This announcement of course comes shortly after Sony had laid off over 900 staff to restructure their company, and recent news of Bungie laying off 220 employees. Bungie is also now rumored to being more incorporated into PlayStation teams as well.
