After the world was led into the darkness that was Covid in 2020, I have been working through this rough time in my home town. Just last year we started traveling again, and this year marks the first event I covered since E3 2019.
I was overwhelmed with a mix of excitement and nerves, feeling like an old man despite my enthusiasm. However, that didn’t stop me from fully embracing the experience and having an amazing time! Upon arriving at the event and obtaining my credentials, the anticipation continued to grow.
It was not just the return of the now “Non-E3” season that excited me, but the realization that Summer Game Fest is now stepping in as the new E3. As I strolled through the bustling corridors of the YouTube Theater, eagerly anticipating the Summer Games Fest Live, I was reunited with a group of enthusiastic friends.
The air was filled with a palpable sense of excitement and anticipation. Despite my weariness and gnawing hunger, I brushed aside fatigue, determined to immerse myself in the electrifying showcase. The event was a vibrant tapestry of sights and sounds, promising a wealth of thrilling game reveals.
Now, I’m thrilled to share the most captivating games from the Summer Games Fest Live and unravel the reasons why they should excite you just as much! Let’s embark on a journey through these exhilarating highlights…
BlumHouse Games Fear the Spotlight
Over the years, I have become a little obsessed with horror games that have a classic look and nature. With that, BlumHouse Games upcoming title Fear the Spotlight takes the cake when it comes to a classic horror experience.
Fear the Spotlight is a 1990s-style horror game that follows two girls, Vivian and Amy, as they explore the creepy and deserted halls of Sunnyside High. The story takes a chilling turn when Amy goes missing, leaving Vivian to confront the lurking monster alone as she desperately searches for her friend.
With a thrilling story, puzzles to solve, ghosts, and dark secrets, Indie Studio Cozy Games seems to know how to get your blood pumping, doesn’t it? The game doesn’t have a confirmed release date yet, but it’s expected to be available on Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox, and PC. (Check back here soon for more about this game in the coming week)
KILLER BEAN
Wow, it’s incredible to see how the world of indie games can be both innovative and nostalgic. Killer Bean, a familiar name to many, has been a part of the scene for a long time. Jeff Lew created the first episode of Killer Bean in 1996 during the early days of “content creation” on the internet.
Beyond this, Jeff has crafted numerous follow-ups to the original animation and has even ventured into game development. Notably, his talents have also been showcased through his involvement in creating animations for major film franchises such as X-Men, The Matrix Reloaded, and Transformers Parts 2 and 3.and Transformers Parts 2 and 3.
I can say that I have never been more excited to play a game about a Killer Bean in my life than I am now. Thank you Jeff for bringing the Bean to the new world! (Early Access Coming this Summer)

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind
This show holds a special place in my heart, as it was a cornerstone of my childhood. My brothers and I would eagerly gather to watch it day in and day out. The announcement of the show’s return in the form of a classic game has evoked an immense wave of nostalgia within me.
In “MMPR: Rita’s Rewind,” a compelling new storyline unfolds as a robotic iteration of Rita emerges with a fervent determination to dismantle the Power Rangers at any cost. This strategic alliance between Robo-Rita and Rita Repulsa sets the stage for an enthralling journey through time, as they meticulously manipulate the past in a bid to prevent the very inception of the Power Rangers, thereby rewriting the course of history itself. (Coming in Late 2024)
Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero
The Dragon Ball Budokai series has always been a huge fan favorite, but now Bandai Namco has brought all our dreams to life with this new iteration of the series. Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero is looking to bring a fast-paced action to the fighting series that we have yet to see.
With this new addition to the series, we not only see a new stellar set of graphics, but we see some of the wildest gameplay I have seen in Dragon Ball games in years. The game is set to release in October 11th of this year for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam!

We spent so many hours playing this amazing title and now that Civilization VII is coming to not just PC, but console all on the same time I will be diving into this game head first when it releases in 2025!
LEGO: HORIZON ADVENTURES
Is there really anything more I need to stay than just WOW! Lego and Guerilla Games creating a game like LEGO: Horizon Adventures is such a great door to open for gamers.
Not only will this be fun when it releases later this year, but this leave use questioning will we see more Lego PlayStation titles eventually? We will have to wait and see, but until we know more check out my kids reaction to the games announcement!
