Denzel Washington has been one of my favorite actors for some time now. The first movie I saw him in was A Soldier’s Story, a film about An African-American officer investigating a murder in a racially charged situation in World War II. After seeing his performance at such a young age, I knew that acting wasn’t just a job for him, it was his life. Since then, every Denzel movie has gotten better and better, but The Equalizer film series just takes the cake.
If you have yet to see any of these films, just think of John Wick, but with a badass like Denzel Washington instead. Though I love the John Wick films, The Equalizer just has a bit more of a meaningful short wrapped around the character of Robert McCall. The Equalizer 3Â follows McCall after he has retired and moved to Southern Italy, but as always, sometimes you can’t escape what you are and you must do what has to be done to protect the ones you care for.
The Equalizer 3 Releases in theaters September 1st.
Since giving up his life as a government assassin, Robert McCall (Denzel Washington) has struggled to reconcile the horrific things he’s done in the past and finds a strange solace in serving justice on behalf of the oppressed. Finding himself surprisingly at home in Southern Italy, he discovers his new friends are under the control of local crime bosses. As events turn deadly, McCall knows what he has to do: become his friends’ protector by taking on the mafia.
