Lucasfilm has revealed Star Wars Visions will return for a third season, with nine new animated shorts, in 2025!
Today is a blessed day. During the 2024 Disney APAC Content Showcase, Lucasfilm announced Star Wars Visions Volume 3 is coming in 2025. I couldn’t be happier. While I’ve generally enjoyed all the Star Wars things we’ve gotten over the past decade, Visions is easily among my favorites.
Everything from the concept (allowing different filmmakers to play around without being tethered to “official” canon) to the execution have been incredible. Resulting in some of the best Star Wars stories around, that I frequently revisit. I’ve been pining for a Volume 3 announcement pretty much since Volume 2 dropped, so waking up to this news was incredible.
Even better, this announcement comes with the reveal of the studios working on the nine short films, which include some returning favorites. Those coming back include: Kamikaze Douga, Kinema citrus Co., Production I.G, and TRIGGER. On the newcomer side we’ll be getting shorts from ANIMA (in co-production with Kamikaze Douga), David Production, Polygon Pictures, Project Studio Q, and WIT Studio.
No details just yet on the shorts themselves (maybe we’ll get some ‘sequels’ with the returning studios), or when exactly in 2025 they’ll arrive. Volume 2 launched alongside Star Wars Day, May the 4th, so perhaps we’ll see something similar this upcoming year. Regardless, I’m excited and needed this great news today.
What do you hope to see out of the next batch of Star Wars Visions shorts?
