We’ve got some exciting information about what’s next for the heroes in a half-shell on the small screen in our latest report.
The wait for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem is nearly over. Based off the impressive trailers it looks like a grand return for the iconic characters. As a long time TMNT fan, I couldn’t be happier and am eager to see what the franchise does next.
In that regard, I have a little bit of news. I actually heard this a while back, and recently got a bit more confirmation and details from multiple sources. A new TMNT animated series is in the works for Paramount+.
That part isn’t much of a surprise. Pretty much since the original series in the 80s/90s, the Ninja Turtles have had a steady presence on the small screen through various animated shows and reboots for new generations.
What’s cool is I’ve heard from my sources the new animated show follows on from the new movie and set within the same universe and even has Seth Rogen on board producing it as well. I’m not entirely sure if that means the cast will be returning as well, or if the animation style will remain the same. Either way, it seems like Paramount is more than happy with this new iteration of the Turtles and wants to keep them going.
As far as I know, this isn’t connected to the Villain-centric films that were previously announced for the streaming service (though I suppose it’s not entirely out of the question). As for when we might see it…I’m not sure.
When I initially heard word of this, it seemed set for a 2024 debut (a time shortly after the film’s launch in 2023). Recently I had one source mention 2025 for an animated series, but the timing for that feels like it could be related to a different project.
For the moment Paramount is focused (publicly) on the new movie, but hopefully we’ll learn more details about this new animated series soon! Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem hits theaters on August 2, 2023.
[Paramount declined to comment when we reached out to them prior to running the story.]
