During Netflix’s Geeked Week on Thursday, September, 19, the streamer revealed on social media the Magic: The Gathering animated series is now in production.
The announcement included the news that Terry Matalas has been tapped as showrunner in partnership with Hasbro Entertainment and Wizards of the Coast. Matalas has writing credits that include Star Trek: Picard, 12 Monkeys, MacGyver (2020), and Terra Nova.
The animated adaptation of the popular trading card game was first revealed in 2019, and said to be developed by Joe and Anthony Russo.
The plot revealed at the time was going to be a new storyline and expansion on the stories of the Planeswalkers, but it’s not clear if the intended plot has changed along with its showrunner.
