From Game of Thrones, to Star Wars, and now Dune, Indira Varma is the latest to join the cast of the upcoming HBO Max series, Dune: The Sisterhood.
Looks like Dune: The Sisterhood is really gearing up to get ready to go into production. After casting the two leads the other week (in the form of the Harkonnen sisters), today brings news that Indira Varma has signed on to portray Empress Natalya.
As far as I can recall (and research), this is a new character for the show. While the Emperor and his wife are passingly mentioned in the Great Schools of Dune books (which is the time period this show takes place), they aren’t characters in those stories and aren’t focused on.
Still, it’s neat to see! Natalya is described as “a formidable royal who united thousands of worlds in her marriage to Emperor Corrino.”
Varma is, of course, best known for her role in Game of Thrones as Ellaria Sand and most recently as Tala Durith in the Star Wars show, Obi-Wan Kenobi. As such, I’m super excited to see her join another beloved franchise of mine and can’t wait to see how her character plays into the new story.
Dune: The Sisterhood” is set 10,000 years before the events of “Dune” and is based on the novel “Sisterhood of Dune” by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson. The show follows the Harkonnen sisters as they combat forces that threaten the future of humankind, and establish the fabled sect known as the Bene Gesserit.
