Disney has announced the start of filming on the Star Wars live-action series, The Acolyte, revealing the addition of Dafne Keen, Carrie-Anne Moss, and more to the cast!

This morning kicks off with some unexpected Star Wars news, as Lucasfilm and Disney have announced the start of production on The Acolyte. Fans are treated to a quick behind-the-scenes image along with a more complete (and official) cast list. While the casting mostly confirms reports from the last couple months, there are some new additions as well. Folks…Carrie-Anne Moss is in a Star Wars!

Joining the previously announced Amandla Stenberg (“The Hate U Give”) are Emmy Award-winner Lee Jung-jae (“Squid Game”), Manny Jacinto (“Nine Perfect Strangers”), Dafne Keen (“His Dark Materials”), Jodie Turner-Smith (“Queen & Slim”), Rebecca Henderson (“Inventing Anna”), Charlie Barnett (“Russian Doll”), Dean-Charles Chapman (“1917”) and Carrie-Anne Moss (“The Matrix”).

If that’s not enough for you, the press release also gives us a synopsis for the series, providing some actual story details!

“The Acolyte” is a mystery-thriller that will take viewers into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark-side powers in the final days of the High Republic era. A former Padawan reunites with her Jedi Master to investigate a series of crimes, but the forces they confront are more sinister than they ever anticipated.

The Acolyte is my most anticipated Star Wars series, and has been since it was officially announced. From the cast members to the crew behind the cameras, everything about it has me hyped. No release date/window has been set, but I suspect we won’t see this one until sometime in 2024.
