Anthony Mackie Set to Star in “Twisted Metal” Live-Action TV Series

A Twisted Metal game may not be on the horizon anytime soon, but a TV series based on the game certainly is. Not only is it in development, but it’s being reported that Sony has already found their leading man in the new Captain America, Anthony Mackie.

According to a report from Deadline, Mackie has signed on to star and executive produce the upcoming live-action series adaptation of Twisted Metal. In the half hour-long episodes, Mackie will play John Doe, a “smart-ass milkman who talks as fast as he drives. With no memory of his past, he gets a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to make his wish of finding community come true, but only if he can survive an onslaught of savage vehicular combat.”

Michael Jonathan Smith (Cobra Kai writer) will be writing and executive producing the series based on an original idea from Deadpool writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. Their synopsis the series is “about a motor-mouthed outsider offered a chance at a better life, but only if he can successfully deliver a mysterious package across a post-apocalyptic wasteland. With the help of a trigger-happy car thief, he’ll face savage marauders driving vehicles of destruction and other dangers of the open road, including a deranged clown who drives an all too familiar ice cream truck.”. Reese and Wernick are also attached to the project as executive producers.

Sony is reportedly very high on the project and the addition of Anthony Mackie has only increased their desire to make this show happen. As such, they are set to take the show to buyers soon.
