Tron: Ares Composer revealed

D23 is in full swing this weekend, and while Friday evening’s entertainment showcase gave those in attendance a preview of the amazing movies and shows coming our way, there was one announcement that made my cynical little gen X heart sing with joy.

Nine Inch Nails will be composing the score the upcoming third installment of the Tron series, Tron: Ares. Revealed during the first look at the upcoming sci-fi flick, fans were treated to a few snippets of the musical pieces completed so far. A glimpse that myself as a Nine Inch Nails fan is very jealous of.

For the unfamiliar, Nine Inch Nails is an industrial rock band formed in the late 80’s by front man Trent Reznor, and is reponsible for albums such as Pretty Hate Machine, Broken and The Downward Spiral to name a few. NIN is no stranger to the sci fi composing space, as the band did the soundtrack for ID Software’s smash hit Quake, as well as composing film scores for movies such as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, Gone Girl, and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

Tron: Ares is set to release in 2025, and will tell the story of Ares, a highly sophisticated program sent into the real world on a dangerous mission. Lead by Jared Leto, the movie features a stacked cast with the likes of Gillian Anderson, Cameron Monaghan (is there a poncho?), Evan Peters, and of course the Dude himself, Jeff Bridges reprising his role as Kevin Flynn.
