Netflix India dropped a trailer for Black Warrant ahead of its January 10 premiere on the streamer, which described the show as a “first-of-its-kind prison drama” that “promises a raw, unfiltered dive into India’s largest prison.”

The show is based on the 2019 non-fiction book Black Warrant: Confessions of a Tihar Jailer by journalist Sunetra Choudhury and the former superintendent of Tihar Jail, Sunil Gupta.

“Sunil Gupta steps unwittingly into the jaws of a system where power and reputation reign supreme and survival demands a price. Alongside him, his two trusted fellow jailers confront Tihar’s notorious inmates and the entrenched politics,” Netflix India said in the news release. “Armed with little more than grit and determination, the trio faces towering challenges within Tihar. This never-seen-before account traces the deeply personal stories of inmates, officers, and their complex dynamics. Will they be able to challenge the system and bring change for the better, or will Tihar change them?”

The show stars Zahan Kapoor, Rahul Bhat, Paramvir Singh Cheema, Anurag Thakur, and Sidhant Gupta.
