It seems a return to Genovia is in the works if the writers at Disney have their way.
The Hollywood Reporter has revealed in an exclusive report that writers are working on a script for The Princess Diaries 3. The script is being written by Aadrita Mukerji and is confirmed to be a continuation of the story as opposed to a reboot.
If The Princess Diaries 3 does move forward, it’ll be interesting to see what form the story takes. It’s been close to twenty years since The Princess Diaries 2 came out in 2004, and after such a long gap, one has to wonder if the fan interest will be there for a threequel. While Anne Hathaway has expressed support for a third installment, and will hopefully appear if it happens, one has to wonder if Chris Pine will reprise his role of Nicholas Devereaux, who was heavily implied to be entering a relationship with Mia by the end of the film.
