The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim, the first anime feature set in Tolkien’s Middle-earth has officially received a release date after being announced last year. An exclusive report from Variety reveals that the feature is set to arrive on April 12, 2024.
Kenji Kamiyama (Blade Runner: Black Lotus) is directing the feature with Blade Runner: Black Lotus producer Joseph Chou through his anime studio Sola Entertainment. A voice cast for the film has yet to be announced, but is expected sooner rather than later.
Set roughly two centuries before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, The War of the Rohirrim will explore the exploits of Helm Hammerhand, the King of Rohan, and the creation of Helm’s Deep, the stronghold featured in the climax of Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers.
