The Crow franchise is finally returning to the big screen. It’s been announced that Bill Skarsgard (It) and grammy award-nominated FKA twigs (Honeyboy) have signed on to star in the film based on James O’Barr’s graphic novel. Rupert Sanders (Snow White and the Huntsman, Ghost in the Shell, Foundation) will direct with a script written by Academy Award-nominated Zach Baylin (King Richard).
“The Crow is beautiful, dark, poetic and sometimes disturbing,” says director Rupert Sanders. “It is a story of love, loss, grief and revenge. It is a great honor to revisit James O’Barr’s iconic comic and reimagine The Crow as a foreboding voice of today.”
This reboot of The Crow is being dubbed: “The Crow is a modern reimagining of the titular character, based on the graphic novel series by James O’Barr that was first published by Caliber Comics in 1989.”
What exactly that entails remains to be seen. Nevertheless, this reimagining of The Crow appears to be the most promising one since the 1994 version, starring the late Brandon Lee. Since then, the quality of the franchise continued to dip to the point that it hadn’t been revisited since 2005. With huge talents like Bill Skarsgard and FKA twigs attached, a blockbuster director, and a script written by Baylin, it seems like The Crow franchise could finally be relevant again.
