Those familiar with the Casual Cinecast know that they typically start off talking about the film and TV they’ve been consuming over the past week. But not this week! They all watched two movies they wanted to dive deep into so there is no What’s On Our Mind segment this week!
Therefore Mike, Chris and Justin go directly into their full review of Creed II! This sequel and latest addition to the Rocky franchise is directed by Steven Caple Jr. and stars Michael B. Jordan, Sylvester Stallone and Tessa Thompson. The film also features the return of Ivan Drago (Dolph Lundgren) whose son will challenge Adonis Creed! Can this film live up to the stellar Creed? How does it compare to the rest of the Rocky franchise? Is it time to let Adonis Creed (Michael B. Jordan) take over the film and say goodbye to Rocky Balboa? These questions and more are answered in the review!
Then the guys move into a full review of the latest film from the Coen Brothers, The Ballad of Buster Scruggs. This western anthology film tells 6 separate and (mostly) unrelated stories and, throughout the different stories, stars Tim Blake Nelson, James Franco, Liam Neeson, Tom Waits, Zoe Kazan and Brendan Gleeson. The film is also one of this year’s major films purchased by Netflix that will not be released theatrically and only on the Netflix platform. What does this mean for the success of the movie? Is the film a new highlight for the Coens or a new low? How do they rank the segments from best to worst? Find out by listening to the show here or on YouTube, Spotify and any podcast platform:
