The wait for Matt Reeves The Batman sequel has just gotten a bit longer as the film has been pushed back a full year, while Salem’s Lot skips theaters entirely.
Time to reset the clocks on The Batman 2. Today brings word that the film won’t be making it’s 2025 release date and has instead been delayed (a full year) and will now hit theaters on October 2, 2026.
While it’s a bummer, I suppose it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise. Matt Reeves isn’t one to rush things and after the delay caused by the strikes, things just weren’t ready. Considering they’d have to begin filming now in order to make the 2025 release date (much like James Gunn’s currently filming Superman flick), I can see why they’re delaying. A full year seems a little extreme, but I guess greatness can wait…
In other Warner Bros. release news, the latest adaptation of Stephen King’s Salem’s Lot finally shows some signs of life. The film was originally set to release in 2022, but was shuffled around when the WB/Discovery merger happened. Then last year…it just vanished off their release calendar entirely.
Today, New Line and WB revealed the movie will now skip theaters and be a Max streaming exclusively at some point this year. Still no firm release date given, but sounds like a Fall 2024 is the safest bet.
The move doesn’t exactly inspire confidence, but frankly I’d rather a bad/OK film get released in some form rather than be disappeared entirely (as WB has done with Batgirl and Coyote vs. ACME).
