CinemaCon 2025 is upon us, as Sony kicked off the iconic trade show with new trailers, Spider-Man reveals, and more. Here’s our breakdown of Sony’s presentation.
One of the biggest weeks for movie theaters and studios has finally arrived: CinemaCon! Tonight, the trade show officially started with Sony hosting the first media presentation. Sony Chief Tom Rothman hosted the presentation in which he promised theater owners they would work together on better/more beneficial release windows, while also showing off what they’ll be bringing to theaters over the next couple years.
It was a fairly solid presentation all around, as Sony paraded a slew of filmmakers onto the stage to talk about the upcoming slate of films. As is always the case, pictures/videos aren’t allowed (though they did release some goodies for everyone), so I’m going to do a quick and dirty breakdown of what was shown.

28 Years Later – June 20, 2025
Danny Boyle started things off as he took the stage to talk a bit about 28 Years Later. Saying even after all this time he still loves “apocalypses,” “infected,” and “blowing shit up.” Then, we were treated to a brand new trailer for the upcoming film.
The first trailer hit all the right notes in terms of teasing and reminding people about the franchise in general. This new trailer, however, blows the roof off. It’s intense in the way only these films seem to capture, and it had me on the edge of my seat. Moreso, it looks dark and gnarly, with some more maniacal humans and infected who are just as terrifying as ever before.
Even better, following the new trailer, Nia DaCosta, the director for the sequel 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple to BRIEFLY discuss that film; since it’s already been shot and has a rough cut together. They obviously didn’t talk about much, as that could spoil the film that comes before, but they did show off a pair of images from the film; including one with a horrifying/crazy looking Ralph Fiennes.
Danny Boyle emphasized the idea for his return to this franchise is a trilogy, and that a third film is plotted out…they just haven’t gotten Sony to sign off on financing it yet. He jokingly teased Rothman about it, while telling theater owners it pretty much all depends on how these two films do when they release!
Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse
Next up, Phil Lord and Chris Miller took the stage to talk about Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse and how they’re currently hard at work crafting the film. To the surprise of all of us, they even showed an EARLY teaser for the film. It uses a lot of footage from the previous films (catching up on those events), while showing some snippets of the new stuff.
On top of looking absolutely stunning, the quick glimpses we got teased some interesting things. Namely, there’s a shot where Miles (Spider-Man) seems to be working alongside the “evil” Miles and his Uncle….Much to ponder.
Lastly, they announced Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse will hit theaters on June 4, 2027.
Quick Bits
A lot of things happened in quick succession following that. Darren Aronofsky took the CinemaCon stage for the first time to show off a trailer for Caught Stealing. The 90s-set crime thriller starring Austin Butler looks dramatically different from what we’ve come to expect from the director, which is what he said he wanted to do. Namely, it just looks like a ridiculous amount of fun. Caught Stealing hits theaters on August 29, 2025.
Director Zach Cregger (Barbarian) took the stage to quickly talk about his Resident Evil film. Not a whole lot to say, but mentioned the film will focus on a singular protagonist and he’s trying to capture the feeling of tension/terror in the games of knowing something terrible is on the other side of the door.
Director Kogonada arrived to show off a trailer for A Big Bold Beautiful Journey starring Colin Farrell and Margot Robbie (her first film since Barbie). It’s a fantastical type of film in which a man and woman find themselves pulled into another world where they can revisit their past through a series of doors. All I know is the trailer alone got me all choked up and it looks amazing. A Big Bold Beautiful Journey hits theaters on September 19, 2025.
Karate Kid: Legends – May 30, 2025
Perhaps my favorite moment of the presentation (being a lifelong martial artist myself), was the Karate Kid: Legends part of the showcase. Sony brought out a whole group of martial artists on the stage as they did a performance in time to live music, culminating in Ralph Macchio and Ben Wang taking the stage.
There we got to see two clips from the upcoming film. The first shows Jackie Chan’s Sifu Han surprising Wang’s Li Fong in his apartment in New York. There’s a short fight sequence that takes place and does a solid job of setting the stage for how impressive the action might be.
The second scene presents the first meeting between Han and LaRusso in Mr. Myiagi’s old shop. The dynamic between the two is instantly endearing and you can feel the history between them.
Lastly, they showed off the new trailer. Since that arrives tomorrow, I won’t bother discussing it too much. Suffice it to say, between all they showed us tonight, Karate Kid: Legends jumped up pretty high on my most anticipated Summer movies list.
I Know What You Did Last Summer – July 18, 2025
We also had the chance to check out the first trailer for the all new I Know What You Did Last Summer film. There are the expected nostalgic callbacks, but it nails the slasher vibe and gave me the same feelings I felt while watching the trailers for the newest Scream movies. Seems to be balancing the legacy sequel stuff with the new very well. Definitely eager to see more.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day – July 31, 2026
More Spider-Man news! Not only did we get some Spider-Verse goodness, director Destin Daniel Cretton took the stage to talk about his upcoming Spider-Man film starring Tom Holland. Obviously details are scarce, but he confirmed filming will take place this Summer, and told an adorable story about how his child’s first words were “Spider-Man.” Dude sounds really passionate about the project and after he killed it with Shang-Chi, I’m eager to see what he does with Spidey.
He then introduced a video of Tom Holland, speaking from the set of Nolan’s Odyssey, who revealed the title of the film is Spider-Man: Brand New Day! An interesting choice that gives fans of the comics plenty to chew on.
The Beatles: A Four-Film Cinematic Event – April 2028
To close out the presentation, director Sam Mendes took the stage to discuss his upcoming 4-film epic, The Beatles. He confirmed all four films will shoot simultaneously over the course of a year and then shocked the crowd by bringing out the four main cast members!
Harris Dickinson (John Lennon), Paul Mescal (Paul McCartney), Barry Keoghan (Ringo Starr) and Joseph Quinn (George Harrison).
Even crazier, they revealed ALL FOUR films will release in April 2028. The idea behind dropping all of them at once is to offer up “the first binge-able theatrical experience.”
It was a wild way to kick things off and there’s much more to come! Keep it here (and on our socials) as we provide updates live from CinemaCon 2025 all week long!
