According to a Deadline exclusive, Shang-Chi director Destin Daniel Cretton has signed a multi-year contract with Marvel Studios and Hulu Onyx Collective. This deal will include multiple TV series in development for the Hulu platform and a Shang Chi spin-off Disney+ series. Alongside this, it has also been confirmed that he is currently in the development of a sequel to Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.
Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige said:
“Destin is an amazing collaborator who brought a unique perspective and skill to Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings. We had a fantastic time working together on the film and he has so many intriguing ideas for stories to bring to life on Disney+, so we’re thrilled to expand our relationship with him and can’t wait to get started,”
Details on the sequel are yet to be released, the mid-credits teased a signal being sent to what many fans speculate to be Fin Fang Foom, an alien dragon whose species created the Ten Rings in the Marvel Comics universe.
Not much more can be said for the spin-off series either, the end-credits left a tag confirming “THE TEN RINGS WILL RETURN” but this time under the lead of Xialing, Shang Chi’s sister. Perhaps the series will give Xialing the center stage while Shang-Chi continues to lead in solo projects. Further details and official announcements are sure to come in the near future.
