Ryan Gosling dished on his recent viral role as the iconic Ken in Greta Gerwig’s Barbie.
Gosling stars in the film alongside Margot Robbie as the titular character and cultural icon.
The actor talked about the juxtaposition between the role in Barbie compared to The Gray Man, an action film, with Entertainment Tonight on Tuesday.
The Gray Man puts Gosling on screen as a rogue CIA mercenary on the run from a team of government hitmen led by Chris Evans. In the film, Evans refers to Gosling’s character as a Ken doll, ET reports.
“I have that Ken-ergy that you can feel, obviously,” Gosling said. “That Ken life is even harder than the ‘Gray Man’ life, I think. Ken’s got no money, he’s got no job, he’s got no car, he’s got no house. He’s going through some stuff.
“I can’t wait for people to see the film. That’s all I can say. Otherwise, Mattel will come in and box me up.”
Mattel CEO Ynon Kreiz told CNBC on Wednesday the Barbie film is a “cultural event.”
“Barbie is very much more than a toy,” Kreiz told CNBC. “And more than a doll. Barbie is a cultural icon, a pop icon. And this movie is really shaping up to be what we believe, would become a societal moment.”
He described the film’s approach as ” very different, very unique, not something that you’ve seen before,” and said it would be “very exciting.”
The Gray Man will hit theaters July 15 and Netflix on July 22. Barbie comes out July 2023.
