Move over Mario, the next video game adaptation is here to show off, with the first official trailer for Gran Turismo.
This morning, Sony Pictures has offered gamers and racing fans the first look at Neill Blomkamp’s Gran Turismo. Honestly, it seems like such a strange pick as video game adaptations go, but there’s some fun stuff on display here between the concept and the action:
I can’t say I’m chomping at the bit to see this one. It looks fine, but as someone who isn’t much of a car/race person (or even racing games), it’s a tough sell. Combine that with a trailer that seemingly shows the entirety of the movie’s plot, and I’m not so sure what to think.
Based on the true story of Jann Mardenborough, the film is the ultimate wish fulfillment tale of a teenage Gran Turismo player whose gaming skills won a series of Nissan competitions to become an actual professional racecar driver.
Gran Turismo is set to hit theaters on August 11, 2023.
