Paramount+ today announced it has officially greenlit Star Trek: Section 31, a special movie event starring Academy Award winner Michelle Yeoh.
Yes, it’s a big day for Star Trek and Star Trek adjacent fans as Yeoh will be reprising her role as fan-favorite Emperor Philippa Georgiou. This announcement comes fresh off a VERY successful awards season for Yeoh, which included an Oscar win for her lead role in the critical darling, Everything Everywhere All at Once.
Appearing in the first three seasons of Discovery, Yeoh’s role of Captain Philippa Georgiou was killed off in Season One, only to reappear as Emperor Philippa Georgiou, an alternate universe version of her from a mirror dimension, leader of the Terran Empire. For her part, Yeoh had this to say about returning to the Star Trek universe….
“I’m beyond thrilled to return to my Star Trek family and to the role I’ve loved for so long. Section 31 has been near and dear to my heart since I began the journey of playing Philippa all the way back when this new golden age of Star Trek launched. To see her finally get her moment is a dream come true in a year that’s shown me the incredible power of never giving up on your dreams.”
Going into production later this year, all we know is what they’re telling us, which is, “In Star Trek: Section 31, Emperor Philippa Georgiou joins a secret division of Starfleet tasked with protecting the United Federation of Planets and faces the sins of her past.”
Stay tuned as more information becomes available!
