The director behind Marvel’s WandaVision on Disney Plus will be boldly going where a few have before, as he’ll be helming the next Star Trek flick.
While Star Trek has been finding plenty of current success with a slew of TV projects in the works (multiple live-action and animated shows), the film side of things have been continually in flux. Rumors of several directors bringing the franchise back to the big screen (with the last film, Star Trek Beyond, hitting in 2016), but nothing has come to fruition. Sounds like that’s changing.
According to Deadline, Paramount has inked a deal with Matt Shakman to direct the next Star Trek film, and they’re putting it on the fast-track. The script is done, coming from Lindsey Beer and Geneva Robertson-Dworet with them already looking to film in early 2022.
No word on what the story could be this time around, but there are whispers that Chris Pine and his crew could once again be returning (I’m crossing my fingers for this). Hopefully we’ll learn more sooner rather than later.
