As always, The Casual Cinecast crew lets you know What’s On Their Minds in regards to the films and television they’ve been watching over the last week. Chris has been watching Season 4 of You’re The Worst starring Chris Geere and Aya Cash. Mike revisited an old favorite in Curtis Hanson‘s L.A. Confidential starring Guy Pearce, Kevin Spacey, Russell Crowe and Kim Basinger and then watched the Olivier Assayas helmed Personal Shopper, which stars Kristen Stewart. Justin dishes about his somewhat disappointing experience with Mission: Impossible Fallout in Imax, plus rewatched Paul Thomas Anderson‘s Magnolia which also stars Tom Cruise and took the first step on his journey through Kryszstof Kieslowski‘s The Decalogue!
Then they get down to business and discuss their general, spoiler free thoughts on Eighth Grade for those who haven’t seen the movie. After a good and healthy spoiler alert, they dive deep into the film and discuss Elsie Fisher‘s performance, how the film handles anxiety and how that ties in with Bo Burnham’s Can’t Handle This performance from his Netflix special Make Happy, how the film avoids the typical coming of age tropes and much more!
Lastly, The Casual Cinecast reveals the winner of the listener poll to choose the next Criterion Collection film to be reviewed on a future episode!
