Marvel Studios have a truckload of content coming straight to Disney+ with brand new announcements and already announced projects receiving updated logos and release windows.
Rumors were already circulating regarding the potential continuation of the fan-favorite series, well it has now been officially confirmed. X-Men 97 will be an Original Animated Series on Disney+ releasing 2023.
We got an updated logo and our first footage for Moon Knight in the Marvel Studios’ 2021 Disney+ Day Special. It shows Oscar Isaac as the, surprisingly Northern English, lead Marc Spector struggling with the voices he hears in his head; “I can’t tell the difference between my waking life, and dreams.” We get glimpses of a white hooded figure mercilessly beating on someone and leaping across rooftops. An ominous voice, likely Ethan Hawke, says “The voice. In your head. It devours you”. A release date beyond “Coming Soon” is yet to appear for Moon Knight.
First look footage and an updated logo for She-Hulk were also included in the Disney+ special with the vague coming soon striking again. The footage showed Jennifer Walters in some sort of training with her cousin, Bruce Banner, in Smart Hulk form contrary to his appearance in Shang-Chi. We get brief glimpses at her Hulk form but nothing massive, the teaser ends with a peculiar shot of Bruce and Jennifer looking like they’re in some sort of 70’s show. Jennifer quotes the iconic line “Don’t make me angry. You wouldn’t like me when I’m angry.”
Ms. Marvel has got an official release date of Summer 2022 and some first-look footage on Disney+ in the special. The brief footage shows Kamala struggling with becoming a superhero and discussing the perception of heroes; “It’s not really the brown girls from Jersey City who save the world.” We don’t get much of a glimpse of her powers other than some sort of distorted energy explosion and a reflection of her bouncing through the air on purple energy.
While already confirmed, What If?… Season 2 gets an official confirmation. Not much information here but it is happening.
Another rumoured series getting confirmation is Echo. The lead character will be making her debut played by Alaqua Cox in Hawkeye, releasing its first two episodes November 24.
A brand new and surprising announcement was Spider-Man: Freshman Year, an animated series about everyone’s favorite web-slinger. It’s unclear whether this is in the MCU, if Tom Holland will be involved, or even if what it’s about. The freshman year title implies either first year in school or college. Our best bet, based on the young Peter Parker that is briefly shown, is that this will explore the origin of the MCU’s Spider-Man prior to Captain America: Civil War.
I Am Groot will be another of Marvel Studio’s animated series, this time following Baby Groot in between the events of the Guardians of the Galaxy and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. The series is set to be a more child-friendly show with a lighter and fun tone to it, but you can be sure there will be plenty for regular Marvel fans to enjoy.
Ironheart receives a new logo, with a much less Iron Man feeling and more of a cobbled-together mechanic look. The series will focus on Riri Williams, a teenage genius who creates the most technologically advanced suit of armor since Tony Stark’s Iron Man. Dominique Thorne will be playing the character and making her first appearance in next year’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
Another rumor confirmed Kathryn Hahn will lead in Agatha: House of Harkness. The returning villain of WandaVision will have her own series, details are unclear but a prequel delving into the past centuries and magical intrigue of the MCU could be very interesting.
Another animated series, this time spinning off from What If?… , is Marvel Zombies. It would seem the episode of What If?… was to serve as a backdoor pilot for a full-on adaptation of the fan-favorite Robert Kirkman comic. Whether this will be a straight-up continuation of an alternate version of the previous episode is yet to be seen.
Lastly, we got a new logo for Secret Invasion, along with an ever so brief look at Samuel L Jackson as Nick Fury. Breaking his usual trend of leather jackets and signature eyepatch, for the big grey beard and uncovered eye.
