Warner Bros/James Gunn is zeroing in who will portray the iconic Superman villain, Lex Luthor, for Superman: Legacy and the wider DC Universe.
With the strikes “over” and productions looking to ramp up, casting news is starting to come in hot and heavy. Prior to the Actor’s Strike, David Corenswet was cast as Superman with Rachel Brosnahan landing the role of Lois Lane. Now it sounds like they’ve found a villain in Nicholas Hoult.
The actor, who was once on the shortlist to play Superman, is currently in talks to shave his head (we know he looks fine bald thanks to Mad Max: Fury Road) and take on the role of Lex Luthor. While details on the film overall are still relatively scarce, it sounds like Lex won’t be the primary villain this time around, but still serve an important part of the Man of Steel’s return.
As Gunn is fleshing out the new DCU, we know they’re looking to cast people in these roles for for multiple appearances throughout their shared stories. I love Hoult and think he’s great in just about whatever he does. I was initially rooting for him to get the Superman gig, but getting to see him as a bad guy is equally exciting.
Superman: Legacy is still slated to hit its July 11, 2025 release date.
