We’ve finally received official confirmation that Kenneth Branagh is returning as detective Hercule Poirot.
While it was rumored earlier this year that a third Poirot film featuring Branagh was in the works, it’s been officially confirmed that the film is happening. Branagh’s third outing as Hercule Poirot is titled A Haunting in Venice, based on Agatha Christie’s novel “Hallowe’en Party.”
As with the previous two installments, Branagh will star and direct while leading an all-star cast. Aside from Branagh, A Haunting in Venice will star Tina Fey, Jamie Dornan and Michelle Yeoh. The cast will also include Kyle Allen, Camille Cottin, Jude Hill, Ali Khan, Emma Laird, Kelly Reilly and Riccardo Scamarico. With production starting next month, the film is currently planned to release sometime in 2023.
A Haunting in Venice is summarized as follows:
Set in the eerie, post-World War II Venice on All Hallows’ Eve, “A Haunting in Venice” is a terrifying mystery featuring the return of the celebrated sleuth, Hercule Poirot. Now retired and living in self-imposed exile in the world’s most glamorous city, Poirot reluctantly attends a séance at a decaying, haunted palazzo. When one of the guests is murdered, the detective is thrust into a sinister world of shadows and secrets.
