In an exclusive, Borys Kit over at The Hollywood Reporter has learned that director Chad Stahelski (John Wick) will helm the follow up the 2021 Tom Clancy action thriller adaptation, Without Remorse. The film’s star, Michael B. Jordan is of course returning to the role of CIA operative Ryan Clark, signing a two-picture deal back in 2018.
This second film, inspired by the 1998 novel Rainbow Six (also a popular video game), is the follow-up to Without Remorse (2021) and will once again feature Ryan Clark, one of the most popular Ryanverse characters. While no plot details have been released, it will most likely loosely follow the events of the book, something the first film did under director Stefano Sollima.
For those more familiar with the films rather than the books, the Clark character has now been portrayed by three different actors, Willem Dafoe (Clear and Present Danger), Liev Schreiber (The Sum of All Fears), and now Jordan (Without Remorse). While earlier reports had Tom Hardy lined up to play the role, in the end it went to Jordan who is now a household name thanks to his roles in Black Panther and the Creed films.
Due to the pandemic, the first film was delayed several times and eventually pulled from a theatrical release all together, going to straight to Amazon Prime. And while it was mostly panned by critics, Jordan’s performance was seen as one of the few highlights. Paramount does plan on releasing Rainbow Six in the theaters, but no official word on that yet as no release date has been announced.
