The former Aquaman star is taking on a new role in James Gunn’s DCU, and will portray Lobo in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow!
Some fairly big casting (recasting?) news just before 2024 wraps up, as Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow adds Jason Momoa to the cast. The former DCEU Justice League member will be taking on the role of badass, intergalactic bounty hunter Lobo. It’s a role the actor has long expressed interest in.
Just as recently as last year during the press tours for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, Momoa mentioned his hopes for one day taking on the role of Lobo! The actor confirmed the news on his social media as he reshared an older post talking about his love for the character.
Honestly, I’m all for it. I think he’s pretty perfect for Lobo and probably who he should have always been. As such, I’m thrilled he’s finally getting the chance and could have a fun future in the new DCU.
It does seem a little odd that he was the main character in the final DCEU film that hit just last year, and will be an all new character just 3 years later (less time than the gap between Aquaman films)….But hey, reboots and change-ups are pretty commonplace in the comic book world! So it’s kind of fitting in that way.
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow begins filming next month and slated to hit theaters on June 26, 2026.
