Open Road Films has released the first trailer for their upcoming action flick directed by Joe Carnahan, Copshop. It stars Frank Grillo as a man named Teddy being hunted by Gerard Butler and a ton of other hitmen. Why? Who knows! But with the prison firefight and the truly crazy characters, the first trailer makes it look like an absolutely wild ride.
Screaming through the Nevada desert in a bullet-ridden Crown Vic, wily con artist Teddy Murretto (Frank Grillo) hatches a desperate plan to hide out from lethal hitman Bob Viddick (Gerard Butler): He sucker-punches rookie officer Valerie Young (Alexis Louder) to get himself arrested and locked up in a small-town police station. But jail can’t protect Murretto for long. Viddick schemes his own way into detention, biding his time in a nearby cell until he can complete his mission. When the arrival of a competing assassin (Toby Huss) ignites all-out mayhem, mounting threats force Viddick to get creative if he wants to finish the job and escape the explosive situation.
I’m a huge sucker for these types of action flicks. Characters hunting each other down, uncovering motivations behind actions, intense action sequences, and the eventual twists and turns that show up out of nowhere. I can’t get enough of them. Copshop seems somewhat reminiscent of another of Joe Carnahan‘s films Smokin’ Aces in the overall premise of the film. That said, it appears to be much lower budget and less heavy-handed on the star power. Nevertheless, it doesn’t look any less exciting.
Copshop, starring Gerard Butler, Frank Grillo, Alexis Louder, and Toby Huss, is set to release in theaters on September 17, 2021.
