First Teaser Trailer Released for Branagh’s ‘A Haunting in Venice’

The first teaser trailer has been dropped for Kenneth Branagh’s A Haunting in Venice.

We finally have our first official look at A Haunting in Venice, the third entry in Kenneth Branagh’s ongoing adaptation of Agatha Christie’s Poirot stories. While the first two entries, Murder on the Orient Express and Death on the Nile, both gave off the feel of old Hollywood films, it’s pointedly clear that A Haunting in Venice is going in a different direction entirely. The film is scheduled to arrive in theaters on September 15, 2023.

The film’s title, A Haunting in Venice, has been known for some time, but now in the trailer below we can see what exactly is meant by “a haunting.”

A Haunting in Venice is described as follows:

The unsettling supernatural thriller based upon the novel “Hallowe’en Party” by Agatha Christie and directed by and starring Oscar® winner Kenneth Branagh as famed detective Hercule Poirot, will open in theaters nationwide September 15, 2023.

“A Haunting in Venice” is set in eerie, post-World War II Venice on All Hallows’ Eve, “A Haunting in Venice” is a terrifying mystery featuring the return of the celebrated sleuth, Hercule Poirot. Now retired and living in self-imposed exile in the world’s most glamorous city, Poirot reluctantly attends a séance at a decaying, haunted palazzo. When one of the guests is murdered, the detective is thrust into a sinister world of shadows and secrets.

I admit to being a little surprised at the tone of the teaser trailer. I honestly don’t know what I was expecting, but seeing Poirot thrust into what feels very much like a horror film was a bit of a shock at first. Hopefully viewers will be willing to go along with this premise and see what is in store.

It was also revealed today that composer Hildur Guđnadóttir will be scoring A Haunting in Venice.

A Haunting in Venice comes to theaters on September 15, 2023.
