Disney has revealed the first look at the upcoming live-action The Lion King prequel, Mufasa, which still features familiar faces.
As a 90s kid, I can’t say I was the biggest fan of the live-action remake of The Lion King. Though the movie was not terrible, my core memory of the film still sticks with the OG hand-drawn style and cast.
With that, since this will be a story not told before, I believe there is potential for this film to be a great origin story for one of Disney’s most significant characters, Mufasa. The movie is set to release December 20th of this year, so it has time to build fans’ excitement for the film. If Disney does things right, this can be a locked W for Disney in the theaters this holiday season!
“Mufasa: The Lion King” enlists Rafiki to relay the legend of Mufasa to young lion cub Kiara, daughter of Simba and Nala, with Timon and Pumbaa lending their signature schtick. Told in flashbacks, the story introduces Mufasa as an orphaned cub, lost and alone until he meets a sympathetic lion named Taka—the heir to a royal bloodline. The chance meeting sets in motion an expansive journey of an extraordinary group of misfits searching for their destiny—their bonds will be tested as they work together to evade a threatening and deadly foe.
Mufasa: The Lion King hits theaters on December 20, 2024.
