Disney+ has released the first look at the live-action Pinocchio, which is scheduled to premiere on the streaming service this fall.
Our first official look at the live-action Pinocchio, which is set to premiere exclusively on Disney+ this September, comes in the form of a still image that gives us a look at Tom Hanks as Geppetto and his creation Pinocchio.
This shouldn’t be a surprise given that this is a remake, but Pinocchio looks exactly like his animated counterpart, right down to the red feather in his cap. It’s a little startling to see Pinocchio rendered exactly like the cartoon but in live-action, and I’m a little nervous to see how it looks when the puppet begins talking. Hopefully it’s a better effect then the live-action Lion King.
Academy Award® winner Robert Zemeckis directs this live action retelling of the beloved tale of a wooden puppet who embarks on a thrilling adventure to become a real boy. Tom Hanks stars as Geppetto, the wood-carver who builds and treats Pinocchio (Benjamin Evan Ainsworth) as if he were his own son. Joseph Gordon-Levitt is Jiminy Cricket, who serves as Pinocchio’s guide as well as his “conscience”; Academy Award® nominee Cynthia Erivo is the Blue Fairy; Keegan-Michael Key is “Honest” John; Academy Award® nominee Lorraine Bracco is Sofia the Seagull, a new character, and Luke Evans is The Coachman.
Pinocchio comes to Disney+ in September 2022.
