In a surprise move, Disney has announced sequels for several notable films, including Frozen and Toy Story.
As Disney went through its first-quarter earnings call, CEO Bob Iger surprised many by announcing that sequels were in the works for Frozen, Zootopia and Toy Story. Given that nobody was expecting these announcements, there’s nothing else known about these sequels at this time. For those keeping track, these sequels would be for Frozen III, Zootopia 2 and Toy Story 5.
While I’m genuinely excited by Zootopia getting a proper sequel, I’m puzzled by Frozen and Toy Story getting further sequels. I made no secret of the fact that Frozen II did not surpass the original when it came out and I currently can’t see how Disney can expand on the story given how it seemed to wrap everything up. But that’s nothing compared to how I feel about Toy Story 5 now being a thing. Twice now, with Toy Story 3 and Toy Story 4 we’ve been given a “definitive” ending for Woody and his fellow toys. What more can possibly be told in this story? I understand the Toy Story franchise has made a lot of money, but all stories must at some point come to an end.
